“The goal may be the summit …

but, the journey is the adventure!”

This project had it’s beginning when two friends made a climbing trip to Mexico in 1999.  Although the summits of two very high volcanoes   Iztaccihuatl and Pico de Orizaba were the primary goals of that trip, hearts were stolen by the people of Mexico, and volunteer work in the flood ravaged region of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains planted the seed for this project to grow!

Cruz Roja Mexicana Director for the Norte Slope of Pico de Orizaba, (pictured above  receiving model ambulance) Dr. Gerardo Reyes, also operates the Reyes family’s guide service started during the late 1940’s in Tlachichuca.  Dr. Reyes expressed a need for an ambulance and also help with the education of his people.  This project is rooted in assisting Doctor Gerardo Reyes and his people through the donation of a 1960 Mercedes Unimog military radio van that is presently being converted into an ambulance by Dr. Reyes and his Mexican workers, computers & internet connection for an elementary school in Tlachichuca, along with school supplies, and solar ovens being introduced in the village of Hildalgo, located on the slope of Pico de Orizaba.
